- We are all tempted.
- The cause of our temptation is our desires.
- Our routine desires can become runaway desires.
- Temptation is a 3D process: desire, decision and death.
- If we flirt with sin, we will fall to it. If we fall to it, it will diminish our life.
- To help fix this process clearly in our minds, James gives us some key metaphors like hunting, ranching and trapping.
- Sin will take you farther than you ever thought you’d stray, it will keep you longer than you ever thought you’d stay, and it will cost you more than you ever thought you’d pay.
- We never find in sin what we go in sin to find.
- We can choose our sin, but we can’t choose our consequences.
- One great remedy for temptation is a greater desire for God’s goodness.
- If we aren’t filled with God’s goodness, then we will be hungry for Satan’s bait.
- “The only way to break the hold of a beautiful object on our soul is to show it an object even more beautiful.”
