Regarding Bill Warrick

by Doug Bunn on June 10, 2020

Dear Eastside Family,

I was driving home with Bill Warrick early spring 2007 from a Bible study which he taught. There were several of us who lived in the same neighborhood as Bill, so we had the privilege of carpooling with the teacher. At the time, I was considering going to seminary. I asked Bill if he thought it was a good idea for me to pursue being a pastor. I remember where I was when he told me that he thought it was a great idea. This is a brief testimony of how God used Bill Warrick to encourage me and help me.

During my time in Williamsburg (especially while I was teaching at the Men's Fellowship Breakfast),  I have heard many, many people share testimonies of how Bill helped them too. God used Bill.

For those of you who did not know Bill, I have copied the following two paragraphs from an email that the Williamsburg Community Chapel sent out last night:

"Bill served at the Chapel for 29 years, and as Senior Pastor from 1990 to 2013, taking over that role from his mentor, the late Pastor Emeritus Dick Woodward. God used Bill to build so much that continues to help our family of faith connect to Jesus, grow in Christ, and serve Jesus and His community more fully. Bill led the Chapel through a time of significant growth in size and ministry, expanding the reach of the Chapel in the community and completing the building of the current Chapel facilities. Jesus used Bill to help build His kingdom at the Chapel, in Williamsburg, and around the world through strategic partnerships with our Chapel missions partners, such as International Cooperating Ministries.

Bill's Bible teaching often returned to the theme of God's grace and abiding in Jesus. He liked to say, 'How does a grape grow? It simply remains connected to the vine. How do Christians grow? Stay connected to the True Vine, Jesus Christ.' John 15:5 was what he called, 'the backbone' for the ministry of the Chapel, 'I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.'"

Please be praying that God might comfort the Warrick family and friends.

In Christ,

Doug
